Context

One of Zinc's main USPs is that it automates background checks and removes the need to manually verify documents. This works well for the majority of checks, but due to regulations some documents still need to be verified manually.

Problem

Customers in regulated industries were having to collect documents manually from their candidates, in addition to requesting background checks via Zinc.

Recruiters had to complete many steps, which involved triggering background check requests, as well as reaching out to candidates separately about the required documents.

The experience of the candidate was disjointed as a result: they had to complete background checks on Zinc and also provide documents through a separate channel.

Documents sent to the recruiter would then live in different locations, making it difficult for them to check them.

Solution

User research revealed that recruiters would like complete control over what documents they requested for each kind of candidate. For example, they might want to ask for a proof of name change if the candidate had had a name change.

To solve this, we built a document upload feature as part of the Self-Certification check, so that recruiters would be able to request the required documents. We added conditional logic to the feature so that recruiters can dynamically ask candidates for the right document.

With this new feature, recruiters are now able to...

  • Request specific document uploads using the Self-Certification check

  • Add conditional logic so candidates don't have to provide a document that's not relevant for them

  • Check all the background check results and documents provided all in one place

  • Only provide documents that are relevant to their situations, removing any potential back and forth or misunderstanding

  • Avoid unnecessary delay in their hiring process
